A bonus call

Starting Pace level of CGA program is never that easy. Four hours exam for four questions, and they are not the type of questions that we are good at. There is no calculation involved, all are essay type of questions. Cases are given, longer than your answers. You have to organize your time to quickly read them. Answers should be a memorandum write as an internal auditor manager to company CEO. You are asked to evaluate marketing, purchase, production, treasury, human recourses and strategic plan function for the company, appraise their risks and control weakness, give proper examination and analysis, and present a recommendation for improving.

It was December, year-end, quite busy than usual. Also a season with parties planned every weekend. I wasn’t in a good shape, totally not focused, and not at all ready to go to write the exam. Paid a fee, I have deferred the exam to March. I am quite happy about three months, now here again, the time is coming. “Escaped monk cannot take away his temple”. All right so face it.

Two others are in their vacations, and I am covering one of their desks. Document needs to be prepared, but Quebec office just sent them out on Wednesday morning. I will need to take two days off to prepare my exam, but kind of tie up from the office. So I decided to stay late before I can get away. Thursday morning, exhausted from work, I cannot concentrate myself to study, so I went to clinic for my routine health check up. Came back to home, noticed voice machine is on. I thought that might be my husband or son from US. But actually it was from my boss. He asked me to return his call.

I was kind of panic, but not really that much. Figured may be he needed me to do something urgent. So I called, and he wasn’t there. I tried my coworkers, but they didn’t know any thing particularly so important that he had to call my home. A little bit nervous, I went down to basement for a work out, tried to keep all the worrisome away from me.

My boss called me again. He said tomorrow is bonus day; he would like to talk to me in person today, since I am off, so he wanted to call. He said the company had a terrific year, and I have worked hard, and contributed to this success, and he wanted thank me for all the effort, and best of all, he told me the amount of bonus. It was much higher than last year, and it will be in my account by tomorrow. He continued, an annual appraisal will be done soon, and he will see how he can use my talent better for the company in the coming year. What a big relieve.

It really made my day, but come on, don’t call my home to scare me. Anyways, what a good surprise!
