A dream or a game?
Casi once asked me to share my learning experience with all of you, just like Wanghu did. But, to tell you the truth, I have no idea what I am doing or where I am going. I won't even bother to draft a plan. It seems every time I try to plan, things change. So, I'll just go and see what will happen.
I believe that everybody remembers that well-known public speech “I have a dream” of Martin Luther King, Jr, the famous leader of the American civil rights movement, and it has been an inspiration for a whole generation (to which I luckily belong) to pursue its ideal. I did have a dream when I was very young, just like everybody else. Chances are that most people are not able to fulfill their goals. Unfortunately , I am also one of them. That could be my destiny, even though I should have inherited a little bit of my family virtue, which created several miracles in other family members, such as my elder brother.
Now, back to my learning career. Last December, I decided to give up my job; instead, I chose to go back college to improve my English writing skill, as well as to acquire other knowledge. Then, FF said: “Know-nothing is fearless”, along with her laughing loudly over the phone. She told me that my choice would eventually demoralize me to the point that I would be devoid of confidence to face reality, and implied that I would be wasting my time. As a professional French tutor, she is usually right about these things.
However, I did not stop there. I guess it's because of the abundant time that I have and need to fill, and also of the will to accept challenge and overcome obstacles that has always been in me. I have always very much admired my friend Michelle Ng for her courage. She is an aggressive person with the motto “no matter how hard you try to pursue your aim, you still might be defeated, but chance is that you will approach it much more than if you had never tried ”. Her spirit greatly encouraged me. And as a result, I decided that I would like to play this learning game as my new hobby.
Subsequently, I registered myself in a college—one that is just near my home—and started my new life as an old freshman. As you all see, so far I have managed to play this game well, even though it did not come easy to me. I have to get up at 6:30 am every morning and drive to campus in rushing hour. I need to do a lot of assignments and prepare for one test/quiz after another. I have no time to update my Chinese blog frequently like before and get together with my friends. I have been so busy that I even forgot to phone the two seniors three times this month!
Yet there is nothing I do not like about this game. It reminded me of my youth which was filled with academic challenge and scholarly ambition. In fact, I don’t think I would ever give up my dream, even it seems that it could have never fulfilled. It is still beautiful in my mind, just acts in a new game way.
